Pucioasa

Pucioasa is a town in Dâmboviţa county in the Great Wallachia in Romania.

Geographical location

Pucioasa is located in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, south of the Bucegi Mountains at the headwaters of the river Ialomiţa. The district capital Targoviste is located about 20 km south.

History

The term Pucioasa appeared in 1649 on the first time; from 1759 can be assigned to the village. The (now no longer official ) district Serbanesti was already mentioned in 1538. The later development of the hitherto predominantly agricultural town was much of the 1828 discovered sulfur and iodine mineral springs coined the Pucioasa made ​​to a busy spa soon. In 1910 the municipality Pucioasa, which was declared a town in 1929. After the Second World War, the city picture changed by the establishment of industries, the construction of new building blocks and the demolition of traditional farmhouses. In the years 1940, 1970 and 1975 there were on the slopes above the town of landslides that made 1975 fixation measures.

The spa complex is now designed (2008 ) for the treatment of 500 spa guests. The most important industries in addition to tourism, the chemical, textile, food and wood industries.

Population

As of the 2002 census lived in Pucioasa 15,263 people, including 15,123 Romanians, 119 Roma and 11 Hungary. Of the 14,254 persons registered in 2011, were 13,492 Romanians, 128 Roma, four Italians, Hungarians and three remaining without information.

Traffic

Pucioasa is located on the railway line opened in 1912 from Targoviste after Pietrosita. Here also operate direct trains to Bucharest. Through the city, the National Road 71 from Tartasesti to Sinaia. Regular bus services among others by Targoviste and Moreni.
