Moreni

Moreni is a town in Dâmboviţa county in the Great Wallachia in Romania. It is located about 100 km north- west of Bucharest.

History

Moreni in 1584 first mentioned. After various names such as Moarile, Moara Rateşului, Moara Nouă, or Moara Sasului, the place has been known since 1661 under the present name. In 1691 was promoted to Moreni oil. It was the first place in today's Romania and the third in the world in general, where this has happened. In the 20th century the oil reserves were tapped by drilling. 2003 Moreni was declared a city.
