Finchley Central tube station

Finchley Central is an aboveground station London Underground in the London Borough of Barnet. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 4 at the Ballards Lane and Regent 's Park Road, Finchley district. In the year 2011 there were 5.49 million passengers these of the Northern Line station.

Plant

The subway runs here though only since the early 1940s, but the station was already more than seventy years earlier built as a suburban railway station. The station building still has many architectural features of the Victorian era. In addition to Mill Hill East Finchley Central is one of the oldest surviving parts of the London Underground.

The main entrance, which leads directly into the main hall, is located at Chaville Way, which ends at a parking lot. The side entrance is located in Station Road, a few meters from Regent 's Park Road. The station is three-pronged: On track 3 all trains heading south, on track 2 that towards High Barnet. Track 1 serves trains towards Mill Hill East and those who turn in Finchley Central.

History

The station was on 22 August 1867, the Edgware, Highgate and London Railway ( EH & LR ) together with the single-track line to Finsbury Park - Edgware opened. In July 1867, shortly before the opening, took over the larger Great Northern Railway (GNR ), the EH & LR. The branch line towards High Barnet followed on 1 April 1872. Initially called the Finchley & Hendon railway station on February 1, 1894, he was named Finchley ( Church End ).

With the Railways Act 1921, all railway companies in the country were combined into four major companies that GNR went there in 1923 in the London and North Eastern Railway ( LNER ) to. As part of the Northern Heights project, the railway lines were built by Edgware and High Barnet in the metro network. On April 1, 1940, the last LNER - train and the station went got its present name. The subway began operation on 14 April 1940. On May 18, 1941, the short branch line followed by Mill Hill East.

Near the station was once the home Harry Beck, designer of the zone plan of the London Underground. It is a memorial plaque on the platform.
