Finlarig Castle

Finlarig Castle is a ruined castle in the Scottish Perthshire. It is located 0.8 km north of Killin on a hill on a peninsula between the River Lochay and Loch Tay. The tower house was built around 1629 by 'Black ' Duncan Campbell ( Donnchadh Dubh ) of Glenorchy by the "Z- Plan". The central living area is flanked by two towers at the northeast and southwest, the plant was four stories high. A now almost completely decayed wall surrounding the castle. It was one of many fixtures Campbells of Breadalbane in Argyll and Perthshire. The castle was visited in 1713 by Rob Roy MacGregor.

Near the castle are the ruins of Breadalbane mausoleum, a chapel, which was built in 1829 in mock-Tudor style. There are tombs, including some from the year 1523, by an ancestor of the Earl of Breadalbane, Sir Colin Campbell. This branch of the Campbell clan were the Earls of Breadalbane.

Near the north wall of the complex is a quarry where prisoners were beheaded, according to legend of noble blood. Civil and lower people were hanged at a nearby oak.

The ruin is greatly in danger of collapse and therefore not accessible to the public.
