Finnish presidential election, 2000

The presidential election in Finland in 2000 was held on 16 January and 6 February 2000. Since no candidate in the first ballot won an absolute majority, had to be held a runoff.

With Tarja Halonen of the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP ), a woman was elected head of state for the first time. Halonen could just against Esko Aho traversed by the center in the runoff.
