Firas Al Khatib

Firas Al Khatib (Arabic فراس الخطيب, born June 9, 1983 in Homs ) is a Syrian football player. He is currently at Al Qadsia in the Kuwaiti Premier League under contract.

Career

Al Khatib enjoys high reputation because of his many goals in the Arab world and especially in his home country of Syria and the Gulf states.

Association

Al Khatib started his professional career in the Syrian Premier League with Al- Karama in the 2000/2001 season. On October 6, 2000 at the age of 17, he scored his first goal in the Syrian Premier League game against Al- Futowa, which ended 1-1. In August 2002, he joined the Kuwaiti Premier League to Al Nasr. The following season in 2003 signed him the Kuwaiti giants Al -Arabi. There he had his most successful period with distance and shot within 6 seasons 133 goals. In the 2005 season he was loaned by the Qatari club Al- Ahli for half a year.

On 24 August 2009 he signed a contract with the Kuwaiti club Al- Qadsia. In the first five games of the season for his club, he met five times.

National

Al Khatib is since 2001 member and current captain of the Syrian national team. His first goal he scored in the FIFA World Cup qualifier 2002 at the age of 17 years against Laos. Currently, Syria is the # 1 qualification for the Asian Cup 2011 in Qatar. The 3-2 win against closest rivals China Al Khatib scored the interim 3-0. Even in the 2-0 victory over Lebanon, he met the 2-0.
