The Flieden station is a railway station in the separation osthessischen community Flieden where the railway line Flieden - Gemünden of the Kinzig Valley Railway Fulda and Frankfurt am Main branches.

History

The Flieden station was opened with the completion of the Kinzig Valley Railway on December 15, 1868. Is the Hessian country back, the distance between Flieden and Schlüchtern had to cross between the Fulda valley and the Kinzig valley. With the former Tunnelbautechnik the required tunnel length for a plane crossing was not available and a direct crossing would have required too steep ramps. Therefore, the path was performed on a hairpin in Elm. This solution was operationally complicated: In the hairpin, the locomotives had to be implemented and for the still steep climbs required heavy freight trains additional Vorspannloks. Therefore, the Fliedener station also had an attached depot, in which the required locomotives were provided and maintained.

Due to the high cost of the hairpin was founded in 1909 with the construction of the tunnel started by the Schlüchterner Distelrasen to shorten the route. The new tunnel was put into operation on 1 May 1914. The now through the Kinzig Valley Railway branched in Flieden of the 1879 Elm from secondary route to Gemünden from, Flieden was separation station and lost a large part of its operational meaning. Due to the discontinuation of the detour on Elm, the railway line between Flieden and Schlüchtern shortened by 7 km, so that within the station Flieden is one kilometers jump from kilometer 85.2 to 92.2.

Due to the ever more powerful locomotives accounted for, the prestressing services to Elm for trains to Gemünden and the depot was abandoned.

Today is at this point, a substation and an engine shed for autotowers.

The station received an extensive park-and- ride facilities in the 1990s and was renovated between 2006 and 2007, whereby in addition to the renewal of a new platform, disabled underpass and a new bus station were established. Except for the unused during normal operation main platform ( platform 1) since all platforms allow a height equal access to the trains. The station building is a listed building.
