Flórián Albert

Flórián " Csaszar " Albert [ flo ː ː n ria ɒlbɛrt ] ( born September 15, 1941 in Hercegszántó, † October 31, 2011 in Budapest) was a Hungarian football player and coach. With his team Ferencvaros Budapest, he won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1964 /65. In 1967 he was elected as so far the only Hungarian to the European Footballer of the Year.

Career

Success with Ferencvárosi TC

Flórián Albert - often " Csaszar ," Emperor, called - was one of the most dangerous strikers of his era and was praised for its elegance. In his 1958 continuing until 1974 active time he played exclusively for Ferencvaros Budapest. In 339 league games, he scored 245 goals, winning four Hungarian championships. In 1972 he also won the Hungarian Cup.

At the international level switched Ferencvaros with Albert from, among others, Roma, Athletic Bilbao and Manchester United on the way to the final of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1964/65. In the finals, which took place in Turin, the Budapest prevailed by a goal by Máté Fenyvesi in the 74th minute against Juventus 1-0 and thus brought the first and only trophy of the modern European Cup competitions in Hungary.

World Cup top scorer for the national team

With Hungary he took part in Chile and in England in 1966 at the FIFA World Cup 1962. In Chile, he scored four goals in three games and was on a par with the Brazilians Garrincha and Vavá, Leonel Sanchez from Chile, the Yugoslavs Dražan Jerković and the Russian Valentin Ivanov. Garrincha but was chosen by lot to the official scorer of the tournament.

With Hungary he also took part in the finals of the European Football Championships in 1964 and 1972. Here, Hungary reached the third and fourth place.

Flórián Albert played a total of 75 times for his country, scoring 32 hits.

In 1967 he was voted European Footballer of the Year and let it players like Bobby Charlton, Franz Beckenbauer and Eusébio behind. In 1974, he finished his career as a football player after he suffered a serious injury in an international match against the Danish national football team.

After his playing career he contributed originally to a career as a coach. 1975/76 he was training Al -Ahly Benghazi in Libya and in the following season he was in the youth field of Ferencvaros active. Ultimately, however, he decided to work as a journalist.

On 21 December 2007, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Albert's election to the European Footballer of the Year, Ferencvaros honored him again by the venue of the club, the 18 100 -capacity stadium " Üllői út " in Albert Flórián Stadium renamed.

Private

His son Flórián Albert Jr. (born 1967 ) was also professional football players. He played for Real Madrid and the Grasshopper Club Zurich and was also from 1993 to 1996 in six games for the Hungarian national team on the lawn. Flórián Albert senior died October 31, 2011 a few days after heart surgery.
