The Focke -Wulf Fw 159 was a single-engine fighter aircraft of the German Focke -Wulf aircraft factory. However, this developed in 1935 for a Call experimental aircraft could not prevail against the competitors Messerschmitt Bf 109 and was never used.

History

After 1934, the Air Ministry had announced a design competition for a single-seat fighter monoplane, with which the old Arado Ar 68 and Heinkel He- 51 biplane should be replaced, in addition to Arado, Heinkel and Messerschmitt also received Focke -Wulf a development order.

Chief Engineer Blaser was commissioned by Prof. Kurt Tank with constructive line. He developed until the summer of 1935, the Fw 159 Fw 159 was the one high-wing monoplane of all-metal with covered driver's seat and a retractable into the hull chassis. The Fw 159 V-1 was fitted with a Jumo 210 A with 610 hp starting power and a rigid two-bladed propeller. She went on the first flight under Captain Wolfgang stone to break, because the landing gear was not working. In October 1935, 112 V-1 and Messerschmitt Bf 109 V-1 carried out with the competitors' machines Arado Ar 80 V -1, Heinkel He Travemünde a comparison flies. In this comparison, flying the Bf 109 was a winner. It was found that the design of the Fw 159 was already obsolete due to the stormy technical development. The under construction, two other patterns Fw 159 V -2 and Fw 159 V-3 were equipped with the more powerful Jumo 210 G with 680 hp and a three-bladed propeller. They were still built and tested.
