Foieni

Fienen (Romanian Foieni, Hungarian Mezőfény ) is a town in north-western Romania.

Position of the settlement

In the northwest borders the municipality of Fienen to Hungary. Neighboring towns on Romanian territory are the city Carei (wholesale Karol ) and the places Urziceni ( Schonthal ) and Sanislău. The distance to the district capital of Satu Mare ( Satu Mare ) is about forty kilometers.

The village is by the river Valea NEAGRA.

Past and present

Even before the colonization with Satu Mare Swabians was at the site a settlement. This was destroyed ( during the Tatar invasions, for example ) several times and in 1700 was uninhabited.

Approximately 1720 reached the first German settlers Fienen.

The 2002 census revealed the following ethnic composition of the population:
