Folkearth

Folkearth is an international music project of various folk and Viking metal musicians, which was founded in 2003. The name ( folk earth (English earth) ) symbolizes that it is folk music from musicians around the world. So far, seven full- length albums were released.

History

The history of the group began in February 2003, when the creation of the project, the musicians from different countries, Folk and Pagan Metal idea could play unite has originated from some musicians. The band was formed as an idea of Ruslana's " Metfolvik " Danisevskis ( Ravenclaw ) from Lithuania in 2003, the other bands addressed if they would not like to join this project. With Magnus Wohlfart of Nae'blis as a composer, Wulfstan and Athelstan of Forefather as a multi-instrumentalist and Marios "Prince Imrahil " Koutsoukos as a copywriter a first line-up was available. In the months that followed, there were numerous other musicians, so that in the spring of 2004 could begin recording their first album A Nordic Poem. The album was supposed to be around 60 minutes, but some of the pieces recorded was lost, so that A Nordic Poem has just 40 minutes of playing time. Since the quality of the album was very bad, it was decided to remix the recordings, and then publish again. Soon after the appearance of A Nordic Poem already the next album By the Sword of My Father was published. More bands were present for this album yet involved in the production of the album, including Van Langen, Thiasos Dionysus, Hildr Valkyrie, Death Army, The Soil Bleeds Black, so that the line-up now consisted of 31 musicians from 8 different countries. Was published as Drakkars in the Mist 2007, Folkearth the largest to date line-up. On album Father of Victory worked again around 30 musicians. Depending on the perspective, the number of musicians involved on an album is exaggerated because several times a musician has worked only on a single song, but is still referred to as a full member of the band. Folkearth is not a commercial project, that profit is not the top priority, also operates the band almost no advertising / promotion, which is probably due to lack of money.

Due to the complex structure of Folkearth until now there was not a single appearance and it will probably never happen.

Style

Due to the structure of Folkearth, the recordings work differently than with "normal" bands. Each song starts with a single track of one of the members of Folkearth and piece by piece adds each of the other musicians to add to its own track. Sometimes the starting point is for a song a single riff or melody; but sometimes writes one of the musicians the whole song alone and the other members add only add subtleties. Mostly write several musicians in small groups together a song and give the notes or the recording of the next member or the next Small Group. Musically Folkearth can clearly assign the Folk-/Viking Metal, but they use an above-average number of folk instruments such as lute, nyckelharpa, shawm, Saz and more. Since no shared songwriting takes place, the albums sound more like compilations. Some songs, especially the newer ones, also are very black metal - heavy, but this is not negative to understand.
