It covers an area of 10.4 km ² and has 1177 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

The community is located about 14 kilometers south of the county town of Vagos at the edge of a large forest. In addition to the main town to her include the towns Parada de Cima, Rines and Gandara. It was created in 1965 by separation from the Freguesia Covão do Lobo. Economically, the place of agriculture is characterized.

The patron saint of the place is the Assumption, which is celebrated every year on 15 August.
