Geography

The municipality is situated on the southern edge of the Föritz Franconian Forest. The districts of the municipality are scattered around the Föritz in a hilly landscape. At the Föritz are the districts Föritz, Rottmar and Gefell. At the Steinach the districts Heubisch and Mupperg lie with mogger.

History

In place Gefell stands on a small hill a church that is surrounded by a circular wall. This wall dates from the 16th century.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows in green, divided by a silver diagonal shaft thread, above a silver pine cones, below a silver flight and is surrounded by a nine-fold split in black and gold board. Ninefold so because Föritz has nine districts and the shaft thread symbolizes probably the Föritz.

Economy and infrastructure

West of Föritz there are several commercial areas in which many small and medium enterprises have settled.

Traffic

Föritz had until 1946 a railway connection to the line Sonnenberg Kronach, also is the village on the main road 89, which also results from Sonneberg to Kronach.

Others

In Föritz is spoken Itzgründisch, a main Franconian dialect.
