Forney is a city in Kaufman County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 80, the Missouri Pacific Railroad, the Buffalo Creek (Texas ) and the Mustang Creek, 38 km east of Dallas in the North West of the county, in the central northeast Texas, some 100 kilometers from Oklahoma is in the north removed and has a total area of 20.3 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The town was founded in 1870 as Brooklyn. When in 1873 a post office was to be opened rejected the post office from the name because there was already a town of the same name in Shelby County. End of the year named the inhabitants of the place to Forney, John Wien Forney after, a politician and journalist from Pennsylvania and a board member of the Texas and Pacific Railway

The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.29 persons to.

32.1% of the population were under 18 years old, 7.8 % from 18 to 24, 33.5 % 25-44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.0 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 93.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 91.6 males.
