Fouquieria

Fouquieria diguetii

Fouquieria is the only plant genus of the mono- generic family of Fouquieriaceae within the order of heather -like ( Ericales ), with only eleven species. The genus name honors the French physician Pierre Fouquier ( 1776-1850 ).

Description

Fouquieria species are xeromorphe shrubs, usually with erect branches. Some species can reach a height of up to 15 meters. There are two types of sheets. The simple ganzrandigen leaves are arranged opposite one another and spiral on short shoots, they usually appear only after rainfall. There are thorns on long shoots. For more around the mandrel is the second type of leaves.

After rain, in spring, the plants begin to flower. Many flowers are borne in paniculate, or racemose inflorescences aged men. The hermaphrodite, five petals have a double perianth. There are five free, unequal sepals present. The five red, pale purple, cream-colored or yellow petals are fused Roehrig. There are ten or more (up to 23) free stamens present. Three carpels are fused into a superior ovaries. Each ovary tray is usually 14 to 18 (6 to 20) ovules. The three pens are only partly covered.

Fouquieria - species form of dreifächerige capsule fruits. The seeds are winged.

Fouquieria species are native to southwestern North America (USA and Mexico).
