Frahelž

Frahelž ( German Frahelsch ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located 24 km north-east of the center of České Budějovice and belongs to Okres Jindřichův Hradec.

Geography

Frahelž on the left bank of the Lainsitz in the field of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Třeboňsko between the Lainsitz in the plane of the Trebon Basin. Surrounded is the site of several large fish ponds, of which the fishpond Ponedrazsky is the largest.

Neighboring towns are Vlkov in the north, Val and Vyšné in the northeast, and Klec Lomnice nad Lužnicí in the south, and Záblatí Ponědraž in the west and Ponědrážka in the northwest.

History

The village was founded in the early 14th century, the first written mention dates from 1549. Lainsitz The resident at the mill owner enjoyed the privilege of a free neck and was therefore exempt from the corvée. From the original place name " free neck " eventually developed today.
