Francis B. Schulte

Francis Bible Schulte ( born December 23, 1926 in Philadelphia, United States) is an emeritus Archbishop of New Orleans.

Life

Francis Schulte joined after seeing the Norwood Academy and the St. Joseph School in the Seminary of St. Charles in Overbrook one. Later he graduated in political science at the University of Pennsylvania and Administrative Sciences at Harvard University's Graduate School of Education. He received on 10 May 1952, the ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. After working as a teacher at the Catholic schools in Philadelphia, he was engaged from 1960 to 1980 in the leadership of the Catholic schools of the diocese, after all, the second largest Catholic school system in the United States with over 300 institutions and nearly 200,000 pupils and students. Pope Paul VI. awarded him the honorary title Surplus secret chamberlain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 27 June 1981 as Titular Bishop of Afufenia and auxiliary bishop in Philadelphia. He received his episcopal consecration on 12 August 1981, the archbishop of Philadelphia, Cardinal John Joseph Krol; Co-consecrators were John Joseph Graham and Martin Nicholas Lohmuller, both auxiliary bishops in Philadelphia. In the same year Cardinal Krol appointed him Vicar General.

On June 4, 1985 John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Wheeling - Charleston and on December 6, 1988 Archbishop of New Orleans. Schulte was involved in numerous organizations and agencies in the focus of education. He was honored with seven honorary doctorates, including through the Villanova University and LaSalle College.
