Francis Braganza

Francis Leo Braganza SJ ( born January 29, 1922 in Bombay, † December 21, 2011 at Ahmedabad ) was an Indian clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Baroda.

Life

Francis Leo Braganza occurred on 28 May 1938, the Congregation of the Jesuits in Shembaganur for and received on 21 November 1951, the ordination. From 1956 to 1961 he was a professor at the Seminary of St. Xavier in Ahmedabad. 1961/62 he was rector of Rosary, Baroda. Braganza was vice-provincial of his order in Gujarat (1963-1968) and assistant to the General Government ( 1967-1970 ). From 1970 to 1980 he was rector of the seminary of St. Xavier in Ahmedabad.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 27 April 1987 Bishop of Baroda. The Archbishop of Bombay Simon Ignatius Pimenta ordained him on June 29th of the same year the bishop; Co-consecrators were Charles Gomes, SJ, Bishop of Ahmedabad, and Gregory Karotemprel CMI, Bishop of Rajkot.

On 29 August 1997, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
