François Jules Pictet de la Rive
François Jules Pictet de la Rive ( born September 27, 1809 in Geneva, † March 15, 1872 in Geneva) was a Swiss zoologist and palaeontologist.
He studied at first in Geneva and then at Georges Cuvier and Blainville in Paris. After his return to Geneva, he worked with Augustin- de Candolle Pyrame. In 1835 he was appointed professor of zoology and anatomy at the University of Geneva. Later he also taught geology and paleontology. His area of research was the entomology and paleontology.
He was rector of the University of Geneva from 1847 to 1850 and from 1866 to 1868. He was for many years a member of the Geneva Cantonal Parliament, which he chaired in 1863 and 1864.
Pictet de la Rive was the cousin of the linguist Adolphe Pictet.
