François René Gebauer

François René Gebauer ( born March 15, 1773 in Versailles, France; † July 28, 1845 in Paris) was a French composer, professor and bassoonist and son of a German military musician. He is one of five brothers Michel Joseph Gebauer (1763-1812), Pierre- Paul Gebauer, Jean -Luc Gebauer and Etienne -François Gebauer, (also in the quintet together ) all played music and composed.

He was first with his brother Michel Joseph Gebauer and then at François Devienne music lessons. In 1788 he joined the Garde suisse in Versailles near as bassoonist. In 1790 he became a member of the orchestra of the Musique de la garde nationale de Paris. From 1801 to 1826 he was a bassoonist in the orchestra of the Grande Opera in Paris. In 1795 he was appointed professor of bassoon at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he remained until 1802 and then from 1824 to 1838.
