Frank Parr (musician)

Frank Parr ( born June 1, 1928 in Wallasey as Francis David Parr, † 8 May 2012 in London) was a British jazz trombonist and cricket players.

Parr began in 1950 with the trombone. Since 1952, he played in the semi-professional Merseysippi jazz band originated with the mid-1950s recordings for Decca Records and Esquire. As a wicket-keeper in cricket he played 1951-1954 in 49 first-class matches, mainly for Lancashire County Cricket Club.1956 he left the Merseysippi jazz band to play to 1961 in the Mick Mulligan Jazz Band with George Melly. In the early 1960s he worked in various bands, like Mike Cotton or Monty Sunshine. As with the advent of beat music subsided, the popularity of traditional jazz in England, he also presented his work back as a musician and became manager of Acker Bilk. In total he participated in 30 recordings 1951-1985. In his last years he has appeared on the TV show Psychoville (2009) and in the feature film The King's Speech (2010). He died in a London hospital on consequences of oral cavity cancer.
