Frank Schöbel

Frank Schöbel (actually Frank -Lothar Schöbel; born December 11, 1942 in Leipzig ) is a German musician. He is one of the most successful pop singer in the former GDR.

Career

As the second son of an opera singer, his musical talent was discovered at an early stage. The age of seven he attended the preparatory course for the St. Thomas Boys Choir. But rather than join in the chorus, he was more interested in pop music. He completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic, he began his musical career in Erich -Weinert- ensemble of the National People's Army. In the 1960s, he started his career in the GDR as a musician, but also appeared as a presenter and entertainer on television shows and starred in DEFA films. Twice he won together with his then-wife Chris Doerk the song contest of the GDR, 1967 Love me as your heart like it and in 1969 with the evening in the city.

In 1971 he had with Like a star his first major success in Germany. The East German record label Amiga sold 400,000, the West German Philips label over 150,000 singles. That was enough in the Federal Republic of Germany for the 37th singles chart, where Like a star was for five weeks. Schöbel was invited into the studio by the NDR B and was the first East German pop singer gigs in Germany. In May 1989 he succeeded there another success, as the title We need no more lies in the airplay charts at position 80 placed.

Schöbel joined the opening ceremony of the Football World Cup 1974 in the Federal Republic of Germany as a representative of the GDR in the Frankfurt Forest stadium.

Very popular is also his 1975 children produced album Come on let's paint a sun, including a song about Tokei - ihto. The title song Come on let's paint a sun, he took 2005 together with Bürger Lars Dietrich and Star Search winner Daniel again.

Frank Schöbel is twice divorced. First, he was married to the pop singer Chris Doerk and later with Aurora Lacasa. Together with his then wife Aurora and their two daughters, he took the LP Christmas in family on the best selling album of GDR history.

Mid-January 2011 there appeared a single with the tracks up close and longing for home. Frank Schöbel goes every year to great Christmas tour through East Germany.
