Art Prize of the German Democratic Republic

The Art Prize of the German Democratic Republic was founded on 22 January 1959 by the government of the GDR and awarded annually in October by the Minister of Culture. He was a high honor for individual artistic achievements, which were deemed to be the trend for the development of culture. It gave him a year especially to individuals who have acquired in the areas of music, visual arts, applied arts, film, television, radio, arts and entertainment services.

The prize was awarded to individuals and collectives up to six people. He could be awarded to the individual or the same collective only once. At the ceremony included a medal, a certificate and a cash grant of 6,000 for individuals and collectives Mark up to 20,000 marks.
