Frank T. Cary

Frank Cary Taylor ( born December 14, 1920 in Gooding, Idaho; † January 1, 2006 in Darien, Connecticut) was an American manager. Cary was Chairman (1973-1983) and CEO (1973-1981) of IBM.

Life

Cary graduated from UCLA and obtained from Stanford University a Master of Business Administration. Cary began in 1948 at IBM in marketing in Los Angeles. According to different positions within the company, he became Director General in 1973. Under the leadership of Cary, among others, IBM 's effort to outdo XEROX was received for copiers in business and investing in the satellite communications. In 1981, the IBM PC was introduced still under the leadership of Cary; In the same year John R. Opel took over the position of CEO.

Cary died from unexplained reason in his sleep.
