Frank Tiberi

Frank Tiberi ( born December 4, 1928 in Camden, New Jersey) is an American jazz musician, bandleader and high school teachers.

Life

Tiberi learned at the age of eight years, the clarinet and began to act as a 13 -year-old professional. Later he studied bassoon with Sol Schoenbach from the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, he also taught himself the flute and saxophone.

From 1948 to 1949 he was one of Bob Chester's Big Band, 1954-1955 for Benny Goodman Quartet, he also toured with Benny Goodman, Urbie Green and Dizzy Gillespie. In the 1960s he was mainly active as a studio musician before joining in 1969 the Woody Herman Thundering Herd Jazz Band. There he worked as a soloist, arranger and musical director and took over the band after Hermann's death in 1987. He also teaches as an associate professor at Berklee College of Music improvisation.

Besides the recordings with the Herman band and in 1987 with his emerging from the Herman band 's own big band in particular is his album Tiberian mention Fashion (1999 ), which he with Joe Lovano and George Garzone, Andy LaVerne, James Williams, Ray Drummond and Adam walnut recorded.
