Andy LaVerne

Andy LaVerne (also: Andy Laverne, born December 4, 1947 in New York City ) is an American jazz pianist and composer.

LaVerne studied classical piano at the Juilliard School of Music, the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. As a jazz musician, he was a student of Bill Evans.

From 1973 to 1975 he toured with the Big Band of Woody Herman. After appearances with John Abercrombie and Miroslav Vitous he was a member from 1977 to 1980 the group of Stan Getz. In the 1980s he joined with Chris and Dan Brubeck on as Brubeck - LaVerne Trio.

Since the 1980s, LaVerne increasingly focused on teaching. It published several instructional videos, in addition, he published several books and wrote articles for Keyboard Magazine and the Piano Today Magazine.

In addition to numerous albums as a sideman (including with Frank Sinatra, Stan Getz, Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, Lionel Hampton, Michael Brecker and Elvin Jones) LaVerne took about forty albums as a solo artist and bandleader.
