Bob Sheppard (musician)

'Bob Sheppard ( born May 4, 1952 in Trenton ( New Jersey)) is an American jazz saxophonist (tenor, soprano), flutist and clarinetist.

Sheppard studied at the Eastman School of Music. In addition to jazz, he plays as a studio musician and in the pop field. He is a multi-instrumentalist.

He played eight years, with Freddie Hubbard, with various ensembles of Billy Childs (who plays along on his album Tell Tale Signs of 1991) and was a longtime member of the trio ( The Lounge Art Ensemble with Dave Carpenter on bass ) drummer Peter Erskine, with which he also released two albums brought ( Lava Jazz 1998 Music for Moderns 2005). He played in Chick Corea 's Origin, with Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Horace Silver, Lyle Mays, Nat Adderley, Scott Henderson and Toshiko Akiyoshi in / Lew Tabackin Big Band.

He toured with Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs and accompanied James Taylor, Natalie Cole, Queen Latifah, Rickie Lee Jones, Stevie Wonder, Rod Stewart, Randy Newman, Kurt Elling, Marilyn Scott, Elvis Costello, Dianne Reeves and Joni Mitchell ( for example, their album Shine).

He lives in Los Angeles, but also works a lot in New York City. He teaches Jazz Clinics and at the Thorton School of Music of the University of Southern California.

He recorded under his own name: In the Now ( Sirocco Jazz 2002) and Close Your Eyes ( BFM Jazz 2010).
