Frank Wildhorn

Frank Wildhorn ( born November 29, 1959 in New York) is an American composer.

Life

Frank Wildhorn was born in New York City and moved at the age of 14 years with his family to Florida. He studied one year at the University of Miami, then moved to Southern University in California. Already during his studies he started his compositions for Jekyll & Hyde and in the evening came Musical exposures by.

In the 1980s he wrote for Whitney Houston the No. 1 hit " Where do broken hearts go ", after which he became a successful composer of musicals.

Career

Wildhorn is the first composer since George Gershwin, which also had three shows on Broadway ( Jekyll & Hyde, The Scarlet Pimpernel and Civil War ). Since the premiere of Jekyll & Hyde in Bremen, he enjoyed success in Europe as well. His plays have since been listed in America, Europe and Asia. In 2006, the premiere of a Wildhorn musicals in Europe took place in Budapest for the first time: Rudolf, which deals with the death of the Austrian Crown Prince Rudolf in 1889 to lodge at Mayerling. In February 2009, the German -language premiere in Vienna followed. In March 2009, took place at the Theater St. Gallen ( Switzerland ), the premiere of the musical The Count of Monte Cristo ( in German language ) instead. From 18 April to 15 May 33 performances of his piece Wonderland were to be seen on Broadway. In March 2014 his musical Arthur was premiered at the Theater St. Gallen.

Wildhorn has worked in the course of his career, inter alia, with Stacy Lattisaw, Natalie Cole, Kenny Rogers, Trisha Yearwood, Tracy Lawrence, John Berry, Trace Adkins, Patti LaBelle, Liza Minnelli, Julie Andrews, Deana Carter, Dennis DeYoung, Freddie Jackson, Bryan White, Amy Grant, Ben Vereen, Regina Belle, the Moody Blues, Jeffrey Osborne, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Linda Eder ( to whom he was married).

Currently, Frank Wildhorn produced songs for David Hasselhoff.
