Fränsta

Fränsta is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish municipality Ånge and is located in the historic Medelpad province and the province Västernorrland County.

Geography

The town is located by the lake in the valley of the river Torpsjö Ljungan and is traversed by the European Route 14 and the railroad line of Mittnabotåget. Near the town is the geographical center of Sweden. Up to Sundsvall is approximately 65 km and to Östersund around 125 km.

Culture and sights

Fränsta is a center for business and culture in the area. In Fränsta there are, among others, a branch of the community college ALSTA ( ALSTA Folkhögskola ), a church and a local history museum. One attraction is the bridge Vikbron, one of the longest wooden bridges in Sweden. On the south side of the bridge you come to Viknäset where there is a burial ground from the Iron Age.

Sports

Fränsta IK is a sports club from Fränsta. The club is active in the fields of football and skiing. With Fränsta IBK an association for indoor hockey exists. The season 2008/2009 the men's team plays in the third division; the women's team playing in the second highest league.
