František Pospíšil

Frantisek Pospisil ( born April 2, 1944 in Unhošť ) is a former Czechoslovak ice hockey player who played for many years for Poldi Kladno and the Czechoslovak national team on the position of the defender.

Career

Frantisek Pospisil began in 1961 his career at Poldi Kladno. This club he remained faithful until 1978 and won with the club 1975-1978 four times the Czechoslovak championship. In 622 appearances for Extraliga Kladno, he scored 134 goals and was awarded the 1971 and 1972 Zlata Hokejka, the main Czechoslovak Hockey Trophy for players. After this successful period was allowed Pospisil to play for the EV Landshut in the Hockey League, where in 1979 he ended his career.

Even greater success than at club level had Frantisek Pospisil in international championships. With the Czechoslovak Mr. selection, he won three medals at the Winter Olympics and ten medals at World Championships. His first appointment to the national team, he received the World Ice Hockey Championship in 1967 and took off this time every year participate in the World Cup. A year later he was called into the squad for the Olympic Winter Games in 1968 and won the silver medal. 1972 and 1976 ( silver ) was followed by further Olympic participation. At the Olympics he tested positive after taking nose drops on doping. The 7-1 victory against Poland was counted on as a 0-1 defeat for his team. He also participated in the 1976 Canada Cup. In the national team he formed over many years with Oldrich Macháč a Verteidigerduo and scored 25 goals in 262 international matches for Czechoslovakia.

After end of his career as a player Pospisil worked as manager: Between 1979 and 1983 he coached the men's team his home club, Poldi Kladno. In 1983 he was hired by the CHZ Litvinov, where he spent two years as head coach. From 1986 he worked as assistant coach of the Czechoslovakian national team under head coach Dr. Ján Starší.

He was honored with induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame ( class player) 1999.
