Franz Beyer (musicologist)

Franz Beyer ( born February 26, 1922 in Weingarten ) is a German violist, professor and publisher.

After training as a violist Beyer was a member of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra under Charles Münchinger, the Strub- Quartet and in early music ensembles such as Cappella and the Collegium Aureum Coloniensis.

In 1962 he became professor of viola and chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.

Beyer was known primarily as an editor of musical works, in particular through its new edition of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem KV 626, which is now recognized internationally for their gentle and respectful interaction with the traditional version of Süssmayr and in recordings, among others present by Leonard Bernstein, Sir Neville Marriner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Frieder Bernius. In addition, Beyer has edited numerous works especially the Viennese classical, supplemented and reconstructed, such as Mozart's Pantalon and Colombine, K. 446 ( 416d ).

1983 Beyer received the Culture Prize of the city of Ravensburg and Weingarten.
