Franz Voves

Franz Voves ( born February 28, 1953 in Graz, Styria ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ) and since October 25, 2005 State of Styria. He is a former national ice hockey team player as well as the country since 2002 chairman of the SPÖ Styria. From 2002 to 2005 he was State Deputy Governor.

Personal

The father of the Grazer was working until 1981 Assembly of the Communist Party in Graz, his mother was a housewife. He has three siblings, two brothers and a sister. He is married to his second wife and has a daughter from his first marriage. His wife has a son from his first marriage.

Sports career

From 1967 Voves played hockey as a center forward in the first team of the ATSE Graz, 1970, he was appointed to the Austrian national team and took part in a total of 75 games for the national team and at seven world championships and at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976. Voves 1975 became the Austrian Hockey Champion with ATSE Graz.

From 1995 to 2003, President of Voves ASKOE National Association, until 2005 Vice President of the ASKO - Federal organization.

Professional life

Voves studied from 1972-1978 Social Sciences and Economics and graduated as Master. He then became a professional contender as a tax consultant and worked from 1979 in the Mercury Insurance. Between 1989 and 2002 Voves was Mercury 's board member in charge of finance.

Political career

SPÖ

1995 Franz Voves was co-opted Styria in the national executive committee of the Social Democratic Party. On 2 March 2002, he was elected to the SPÖ - state party chairman.

In spring 2009 Voves was commissioned by Chancellor Werner Faymann and party leader to work with Ferdinand Lacina, a new management concept for the SPÖ. April 2009 this under the guise of NEW ( New European Economic Policy) was presented. This program includes, among other things, the demand for higher property taxation and re-nationalization of privatized companies which do not respect the public order. In the SPÖ and their environment organizations, the new concept sparked a debate on an economic shift to the left.

Governor

In the parliamentary elections on October 2, 2005 Voves won with the SPÖ about 41 % of the vote, which the SPÖ the first time in the Second Republic the majority of seats in the Styrian Provincial Government ( Provincial Government Voves I) held. On 25 October 2005 Voves was chosen by 45 of the 56 Members of Parliament to the Styrian governor Waltraud Klasnic and succeeds (ÖVP ). On October 28, he was sworn in as the first SPÖ Governor of Styria in the Second Republic by President Heinz Fischer.

The state election on 26 September 2010 brought the SPÖ Although losses, they held up at 38.3 %, however, as party winning most votes. On 21 October 2010 Franz Voves was with 51 of the 56 MPs votes, so with those of the SPÖ, ÖVP and FPÖ, re-elected in the inaugural meeting of the newly elected Parliament. In coalition negotiations with the Austrian People's Party, which was located at 37.2 % of the votes in the state election just behind the SPÖ was previously a " partnership for reform " has been agreed. Due to the proportional control and the Freedom Party, which was in the state legislature succeeded with 10.7 % of the vote in 2010 the re-entry, a seat in the provincial government Voves II fell.
