Fraser MacPherson

MacPherson spent most of his childhood in Victoria (British Columbia). where he studied piano, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone. In Vancouver, he played in bands led by Ray Norris, Dave Robbins, Paul Ruhland and Doug Parker and led his own groups. In 1958 he went to New York City, where he also acted as a flautist. He returned to Canada, where he distinguished himself as a studio musician. In particular, he played in the orchestras of the CBC. It was only in the 1980s, he joined again with his own groups and put albums under his name before. In 1983 he won with I Did not Know About You, which he recorded with Oliver Gannon, a Juno Award for Best Jazz Album from Canada. With In the tradition he has 1991 " played a similarly gentle, relaxed album, which could be classified stylistically somewhere between Zoot Sims and Al Cohn " with Ian McDougall ( Digby Fairweather in Jazz Rough Guide ). He toured several times by the former USSR. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 1989.
