Frederic Remington

Frederic Sackrider Remington ( born October 4, 1861 in Canton, New York, † December 26, 1909 in Ridgefield, Connecticut ) was an American painter, illustrator and sculptor who is known for his portrayal of " Wild West ".

Life

He spent his childhood hunting and horseback riding, but started early with drawing and sketching of imaginary characters. His family then moved to Ogdensburg, New York.

He attended art school at Yale University, but found football and boxing more interesting than the art. Then he returned home when his father died, to take on a church work in Albany, New York. Soon he made ​​his first trip to the West and was businessman in Kansas City. He married Eva Caten in 1884 and studied at the Art Students' League in New York City. Soon he began illustrations, sketches and other works for Western publications to produce. Many of his early work appeared in Collier's Weekly and Harper 's Magazine.

Although he is famous for his many depictions of the American West, Remington visited the region only for a few short months. He arrived just in time to take pictures of the western United States, before the area lost his virginity by the suppression of the wilder elements and the influence of civilization, and the life of the frontiersman was terminated.

1890 Remington moved to New Rochelle, New York, more space to live and work to have. Towards the end of his life he moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Remington 1898 was a war correspondent and illustrator of the Spanish-American War. He was commissioned to deliver William Randolph Hearst illustrations. Although bored him the task quickly, he witnessed the assault on San Juan Hill by American forces, including the US-led Theodore Roosevelt.

Frederic Remington died after an appendectomy emergency operation that led to peritonitis. His extreme obesity may have led to his groin trouble.
