Frederick II, Duke of Lorraine

Frederick II ( † 8 or October 9, 1213 ) was Duke of Lorraine from 1206 to 1213. He was the son of Friedrich von Bitsch and Ludmilla of Poland.

Life

Since the Treaty of Ribemont from May 1179 Lorraine was divided between his uncle, Duke Simon II, and his father. As the childless Simon II appointed him as his successor and died in 1206, his father did not recognize this scheme and proclaimed himself Duke. With the death of the usurper in the following year, Lorraine was reunited.

His marriage to Agnes of Bar out of the house Scarponnois brought him to the field of Amance, Longwy and Stenay one, but he had after an altercation with his father, Theobald I of Bar when he was defeated and taken prisoner, 1208 all issue again to regain his freedom.
