Frederick Keeping

Keeping Frank (actually Frederick Keeping, * 1867 in Pennington ) was a British cyclist who participated in the 1896 Summer Olympics. He went to the race about 333 meters and the 12- hour race. In the 333- meter race at the Velodrome Neo Faliro he reached the fifth place with a time of 27.0 seconds. In the twelve- hour race, he finished second behind Adolf narrow with only one lap down and 295 kilometers driven. After the Olympics Keeping opened in Milford -on-the -Sea a bike shop and a garage. Keeping was the father of football player Michael Keeping.

Protests

Keeping and his teammate Edward Battell worked as servants in the British Embassy in Athens. Thus they were regarded by many Britons, who were living at the time in Athens as a non- gentlemen. Gentlemen were only the athletes that it could not be paid and competed as amateurs. However, since the two Britons working for the embassy, they were not amateurs.
