Fretigney-et-Velloreille

Fretigney -et- Velloreille is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Fretigney -et- Velloreille situated at an altitude of 233 m above sea level, 14 km northeast of Gy and about 28 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the département, in Saônebecken, in a wide opening of the Dhuits, at the northwestern edge of the hill country between the Saone and Ognon.

The area of ​​22.02 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the rolling countryside of south-east of the Saône. Geographically, the area is divided into two parts. The main part is occupied by the weakly in relief Saônebecken constructed partly of Tertiary sediments, partly from recent deposits of the rivers, so-called alluvium. The area is drained by the Dhuits, the south of the village rises, flows through a broad trough and flows on the northern border of the municipality in the Romaine. The predominantly agricultural trough is flanked to the east from the hill of Bois des Vaivrottes. To the northwest, the municipality's area extends to the plateau, the average is at 240 meters and is occupied by the extensive forests of the Bois de l' Abbaye.

To the south and south-east the land rises gradually to hilly landscape, which lies between the river valleys of the Saône and Ognon. This part consists geologically of calcareous and sandy- marly layers of the middle and upper Jurassic period. In the south, the area extends to the Bois du Vermot ( 384 m ) with its Grotte de la Baume. The south-eastern boundary runs along the ridge of the Bois de Chanenot, which leads on to the high plateau of Recologne. Here the highest elevation of Fretigney -et- Velloreille is achieved with 403 m.

The municipality comprises the main town Fretigney (233 m) in the valley of the Dhuits, the hamlet Velloreille -lès- Fretigney (262 m) on the plateau west of the village and a few villages. Neighboring communities of Fretigney -et- Velloreille are Vezet, Le Pont -de- Planches and Neuvelle -lès- la Charité in the north, Bourguignon- lès -la- Charité, Maizières and Recologne -lès- Rioz in the east, Villers -Bouton, Oiselay -et- Grachaux and Frasnian -le- Château in the south and Vaux -le- Moncelot and Les Bâties in the West.

History

The territory of Fretigney was inhabited in prehistoric times. The earliest traces of human presence were found in the Grotte de la Baume: an engraved stone ( head and chest of a horse ) from the time of the Magdalenian.

Already in the year 937 Fretigney is first mentioned. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Oiselay. Together with the Franche -Comté Fretigney came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To a field change occurred in 1806, when Fretigney and the hitherto independent Velloreille -lès- Fretigney (1806: 83 inhabitants ) were combined to the new community named Fretigney -et- Velloreille. Since 2007 Fretigney -et- Velloreille is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Monts de Gy.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Julien in Fretigney was rebuilt in 1759. It has an octagonal dome and is classified as a monument historique since 1988. In-room amenities include remarkable stucco altars from the 18th century, a pulpit in the Louis XV style, and several grave slabs. Also from the 18th century comes a small castle, which was the former residence of the abbots of Notre- Dame-de- la Charité. In the village square, a round fountain with a high column, which was built in 1884.

Population

With 688 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Fretigney -et- Velloreille one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had always oscillated in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 500 and 600 people, a population growth was recorded during the 1960s. Since then, the population has decreased overall again.

Economy and infrastructure

Fretigney -et- Velloreille was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today there are various companies of small and medium enterprises, mainly in the fields of precision engineering and metal processing. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D474 which leads from Gray via Gy to Vesoul. Through a local bypass the village core is relieved of the transit traffic. Further road links exist with Fresne -Saint- Mamès, Scey -sur -Saône -et -Saint -Albin, Bourguignon- lès -la- Charité, Recologne -lès- Rioz Oiselay -et- Grachaux and Les Bâties.
