Friedrich August Peter von Colomb

Friedrich August Peter Colomb, since 1786 Peter von Colomb, ( born June 19, 1775 in Aurich, † November 12, 1854 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian officer, most recently General of Cavalry.

Life

Colomb was the son of a Prussian Privy Fiscal Council and President of the Chamber of Aurich, Pierre ( Peter ) Colomb ( 1719-1797; 1786 Peter von Colomb ) was born. His brother Ludwig Christoph von Colomb (1767-1831) was a Prussian minister in Breslau; his sister Amalie (1772-1850) was married from 1795 with Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher.

Peter von Colomb joined 1792 in Berlin in the Zietensche Hussars as Junker a, 1797 Secondelieutenant in the body of Hussars "by Rudorff ", adopted in 1806 under his brother- Blücher in the War in Thuringia and the defense of Lübeck in part and in 1811 Captain. As such, he ushered in the campaigns of 1813 and 1814 in the back of the French army by brilliant forays.

So he took on 29 May 1813 near Zwickau with 82 man a whole French artillery park away, whose company of six officers, 116 cavalry, 80 infantry and several hundred soldiers armed convoy consisted. He took from 1792 to 1815 at all major battles of Prussia as well as over 30 smaller skirmishes part.

In 1815 he became commander of the Hussars 8 and lieutenant colonel, colonel in 1818. On 20 October 1823 he was appointed to the first department in the Ministry of War. In 1829 he was promoted to Major General and appointed commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade in Neisse. 1838 he was appointed commander of Cologne, 1839 to Lieutenant General in 1841 as commander of Berlin and head of the entire gendarmerie and in 1843 promoted to Commanding General of the Fifth Army Corps in Poznan.

With the unrest in the province of Posen 1846 he intervened vigorously. At the outbreak of the Revolution in the same province in 1848, he advocated a tough approach. In contrast, continued civil provincial commissioner of General Karl Wilhelm von Willisen to a negotiated solution. On 7 July 1849 he received appointment as General of Cavalry under his departure, went to live in Königsberg, where he also died.

Colomb was his first wife since 1808 married to Wilhelmine Luise von Stosch ( 1784-1822 ), in a second marriage in 1824 to Maria Henriette von Stosch ( 1791-1857 ). He had four sons from his first marriage ( including the later Prussian generals Enno and Otto Gebhard von Colomb ) and a daughter and two sons from his second marriage ( including the later Prussian General Karl Ernst Georg von Colomb ).

His grave is located on the Old Garrison Cemetery in Berlin -Mitte.
