Friedrich Bürklein

Georg Friedrich Christian Bürklein ( born March 30, 1813 in Burk, † December 4, 1872 in Werneck, mostly only: Friedrich Bürklein ) was a German architect, Bavarian construction officer, Mr and pupil of Friedrich von Gärtner. His brother was the architect Eduard Bürklein.

Life

He drew attention to himself by the construction of the Town Hall of Fürth. The Old Town Hall with a 55 meter high tower was built in the Italian style from 1840 to 1850. The tower is an adapted imitation of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence and is considered a landmark of the city.

The new building of the Munich main station 1847-1849 and his daring steel structure made him known. His work was followed by other railway structures, eg Pasing (1847-1848), Augsburg (conversion ), Bamberg, Ansbach, Neu-Ulm, courtyard ( Old Train Station ), Nördlingen, Rosenheim, Wurzburg, Nuremberg and Bad Kissingen.

After his appointment as royal Baurat (1852 ), he was - as Leo von Klenze and his teacher Friedrich von Gärtner - to a representative government building in Bavaria. Among his greatest construction projects counted the urban development project of the Munich Maximilian street with all large buildings and private homes. Bürklein realized in 1851 with the Maximilian street and on the Isar height picturesquely placed Maximilianeum the neo-Gothic influenced Maximilian style that was applied for the first time in the new building of the Frauengebäranstalt in the sun road, which later became a post office. To the by Bürkleins facade design very harmonious architectural ensemble of the Maximilian street includes the 1859 new blinded north facade of the Old Mint and the building of the Built 1856-1864 Government of Upper Bavaria. However, this style could not continue to expand after the death of King Maximilian II. Today, however, it has rediscovered the architectural value and 2005 modeled after the Bürkleinsche Blend facade at the Maximilian courtyards.

During his lifetime Bürklein was in the professional world for his style often harshly criticized ( " stove style "). He suffered from the constant harassment by the public. Shortly before his death, and in spite of ongoing construction work on the Maximilianeum the King moved from the architect Gottfried Semper and brought to Munich. The sensitive Bürklein died 59 years old in the hospital Werneck in mental derangement. Buried he is in the Old South Cemetery in Munich ( grave field 13-1-17 ).
