Friedrich Ferdinand, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein

Duke Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg, full name Friedrich Ferdinand Georg Christian Karl Wilhelm of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg ( born October 12, 1855 in Kiel, † January 21, 1934 in Primkenau ) was a member of the House Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg, a branch line of the House of Oldenburg. Friedrich Ferdinand succeeded his father († 1885) and was the last reigning Duke of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg.

Life

Friedrich Ferdinand was the eldest son of Duke Frederick of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Glücksburg (1814-1885) and his wife Princess Adelheid Christine of Schaumburg-Lippe (1821-1899), second daughter of Prince Georg Wilhelm and Princess Ida Karoline Luise of Waldeck- Pyrmont.

Family

On March 19, 1885, the then Prince Friedrich Ferdinand married on the manor Dolzig in Lower Lusatia Princess Victoria Mary Augusta Friederike Caroline Mathilde ( 1860-1932 ), second daughter of Duke Frederick VIII of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- August Castle and Princess Adelheid Victoria zu Hohenlohe -Langenburg, and younger sister of the last German Empress Auguste Viktoria. The marriage produced six children:

  • Victoria Luise Adelheid Helena (1885-1970) ∞ 1905 Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe- Coburg and Gotha, 2nd Duke of Albany ( 1884-1954 )
  • Alexandra Viktoria Auguste Leopoldine Charlotte Amalie (1887-1957)
  • Helene Adelheid Viktoria Marie (1888-1962) ∞ 1909 Prince Harald of Denmark ( 1876-1949 )
  • Adelheid Luise (1889-1964) ∞ 1914 Prince Frederick III. Solms- Baruth (1886-1951)
  • Wilhelm Friedrich Christian Günther (1891-1965) ∞ 1916 Princess Marie Leopoldine Victoria Melita of Hohenlohe- Langenburg ( 1899-1967 )
  • Viktoria Irene Adelheid Auguste Karoline Alberta Feodora Mathilde (1894-1972) ∞ 1920 Hans Graf zu Solms- Baruth ( 1893-1972 )
