Friedrich Gottlob Haase

Friedrich Haase ( born January 4, 1808 in Magdeburg, † August 16, 1867 in Breslau) was a German classical scholar and university teacher.

Life

Haase, son of a tailor, studied philology at the Frederick University Hall, the University of Greifswald and the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin. He became a member of the Old Hall 's fraternity (1827 ) and the Old Greifswald fraternity (1828 ). After a short period at the Köllnischen high school, he was hired in 1831 at the Cauer 's Institute in Charlottenburg. Since 1834 Adjunct in Schulpforta, he was suspended already Easter 1835 for participating in Burschenschaft union companies by the Office, in 1836 replaced and maintained until 1837 in imprisonment.

Then he made ​​a scientific journey through Heidelberg and Strasbourg to Paris. The Silesian Friedrich Wilhelm University in Breslau appointed him in 1840 as an associate and in 1846 as a full professor of philology. In 1848 he was elected to the Prussian National Assembly. 1858/59 he was rector of the university.

Haase died at 59 years.

His own lectures on Latin Linguistics appeared from his estate ( Vol. 1 of Eckstein, Leipzig 1874 Vol 2 by H. Peter, 1880). He also wrote: The Past and Future of Philology (Berlin 1835); The Athenian tribe Constitution ( 1857) and a series of essays and reviews, including the history of literature and history of philology in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
