Friedrich Wührer

Friedrich Wuhrer ( born June 29, 1900 in Vienna, † December 27, 1975 in Mannheim, Germany ) was a German -Austrian pianist.

Life

After Wuhrer had studied at the Vienna Academy of Music 1915-1920 with Franz Schmidt Piano, Ferdinand Lion conducting and music theory with Joseph Marx, he started early a pianist career that led him through almost all continents. His particular interest was the music of the Romantic and late Romantic period. He probably played the first the complete piano works of Schubert for the record. Friendship united him with Max Reger and Hans Pfitzner; the latter dedicated his Six Studies for the Piano, Op 51 ( 1943).

Its contemporary repertoire included works by Bartok, Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Hindemith. As a piano teacher Wuhrer worked in Vienna, Mannheim (1934 ), Kiel (1936) and most recently in Munich. In addition, he conducted master classes at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

Wuhrer is mentioned in Thomas Bernhard's novel The Loser (1983).
