Fritz Hauser

Fritz Hauser ( born March 29, 1953 in Basel ) is a Swiss drummer and composer. With his solo projects, he has " opened up new spaces in the percussion music " and taken an important step towards the development of the drums from the drum machine for stand-alone instrument ( Kunzler ).

Life and work

Hauser studied at the conservatory in Basel classical percussion. He was a member from 1972 to 1980 the art-rock group Circus, with which he went on international tours and recorded four albums. He then worked with the group BlueMotion, but also with ensembles in the field of early music and avant-garde.

In 1983 he joined the first time with a full-length solo program ( CD Solodrumming ) and went on an international tour. It was followed by other solo programs and projects for drums and percussion that brings Hauser for the performance world. He developed interdisciplinary work with the dancer / choreographer Anna Huber and with the architect Boa Baumann. It originated compositions for percussion ensembles and soloists, sound installations in the Therme Vals, in Castel Burio, the Architecture Museum Basel, as well as films, radio plays and readings. Hauser was also known for spectacular outdoor large-scale projects.

In the field of improvised music he plays together with numerous musicians such as Urs Leimgruber, Joëlle Léandre, Marilyn Crispell, Christy Doran, Pauline Oliveros Lauren Newton, Joe McPhee, Franz Koglmann, Patrick Demenga or Bob Becker. In the field of percussion works, and he has been performing since the " Stockholm International Percussion Event " in 1998 with various percussion soloists and ensembles around the world: Kroumata, Steven Schick, Keiko Abe, Vanessa Tomlinson, Synergy Percussion, Michael Askill, Speak Percussion, Nexus.

Hauser received for his radio play rockfall 1990 Radio Play Prize Foundation radio Basel and 1998 for his radio play Fantasia Zolliologica. In 2012 he was awarded the Culture Prize of the city of Basel.
