Fritz Luchsinger

Fritz Luchsinger ( March 8, 1921 *, † April 28, 1983 at Shishapangma ) was a Swiss mountaineer. Together with Ernst Reiss him on May 18, 1956 succeeded in the first ascent of 8516 meter Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain in the world.

Luchsinger in 1956 was a member of the Swiss Everest - Lhotse Expedition. Upon arrival Luchsinger became ill with appendicitis. In the monastery of Tengboche succeeded the expedition doctor Eduard Leuthold to cure Luchsinger without surgery with antibiotics. The expedition erected in late April / early May, several high camp. From the high camp at the "Geneva Spur" reached Luchsinger and Reiss on May 18, the summit of Lhotse, Ernst Schmied and Marmet Jürg on May 23, and a day later Dölf Reist and Hans Ruedi von Gunten succeeded in the second or third ascent of Mount Everest.

In 1980, he was able to climb with the Dhaulagiri another eight-thousanders. 1983 died Luchsinger at the ascent of Shishapangma to pulmonary edema.
