Fritz Overbeck

Fritz Overbeck ( born September 15, 1869 in Bremen, † June 8, 1909 in Bröcken at Vegesack ) was a German painter and etcher.

Biography

Fritz Overbeck ( artist name, real name: August Friedrich Overbeck ) was the son of a Technical Director of the North German Lloyd. After graduating from the Bremen High School Old Fritz Overbeck studied from 1889 to 1893 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. His teachers were Eugène Dückerstieg, Peter Janssen the Elder. , Olaf and Paul Jernberg Foothill. Otto Modersohn persuaded him to come into the new Worpswede. There he first took in 1894 an apartment before 1896 on the Weyersberg set himself up a studio. During this time, he paints images of desolate moorlands.

1897 married Fritz Overbeck and his apprentice, Hermione Rothe. Her son Fritz Theodor Overbeck was born in 1898, daughter Gerda 1903. Around 1900 designed Fritz Overbeck on behalf of the Cologne Chocolate producer Ludwig Stollwerck together with the Worpsweder artists Otto Modersohn and Heinrich Vogeler Stollwerck images. 1905 drew Fritz Overbeck because of growing number of visitors with his family to Bröcken at Vegesack. Here he specialized in beach and dunes of the North Sea islands.

He died in 1909 at the age of 39 years suddenly of a stroke. His grave is located in the Waller Cemetery in Bremen.

The granddaughter of the painter pair Gertrud Overbeck, is committed to the preservation of the life's work of the grandparents in the Friends of the Fritz and Hermine Overbeck Foundation. She was honored in March 2010 with the Federal Cross of Merit.
