Fritz Riemann

Fritz Riemann (born 2 January 1859 in Polish Weistritz, Circle Schweidnitz, † November 25, 1932 in Erfurt, Germany ) was a German chess master.

Riemann, a Anderssen student by profession and city council, had its most successful phase as a chess master in the 1880s. At the Congress of West German Chess Federation in Braunschweig in 1880, he finished second behind Louis Paulsen. In Leipzig he won in 1888, jointly with Curt von Bardeleben before under other Siegbert Tarrasch. Riemann, who then lived for a time in Wroclaw in Berlin before he moved to Erfurt, defeated in 1876 in Breslau Arnold Schott countries in a competition 5:0; in 1880 he played in Berlin 3:3 ( 2, -2, = 2) against Emil Schallopp. In 1885 ended in Wroclaw a competition against Ernst Flechsig with 5:5 ( 5, -5, = 0). Already in 1889, at the age of 30 years, Riemann retired from tournament chess, but life remained the German Chess Federation (DSB ) connected.

Riemann wrote an important book on his chess career, which is provided with valuable memories of Adolf Anderssen: Chess memories of the recent Anderssen 's pupil, Berlin / Leipzig 1925.

The best historical Elo rating was subsequently the value determined in 2632 ( March 1889 ). He was for some time among the world's ten best chess players.
