Fritz Stoltenberg

Fritz Stoltenberg ( born April 7, 1855 in Kiel, † November 13, 1921 in Schönberg (Holstein) ) was a landscape and marine painter from Schleswig -Holstein.

Career

Stoltenberg was born the son of a captain and as a teenager began to paint the landscapes of his surroundings. He studied from 1872 to 1876 at the art school in Weimar, where he was a pupil of Theodor Hagen. He then enrolled at the Munich Art Academy and from 1876 to 1882 at the Academy in Kassel. He received in these years training as a draftsman and landscape painter, and attended on extensive study tours Italy, Algeria, France, Norway, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Work

In 1882 Stoltenberg spent the summer months in Ekensund on the Flensburg Fjord, where he belonged to a circle of artists who had dedicated to plein air painting (→ artists' colony Ekensund ). In the summer of 1884 he traveled to Skagen ( Jutland ) we joined a existing since 1882 artistic circle of the Skagen painters of that had formed around Peder Severin Krøyer, Michael Ancher and Oscar Björck.

In 1889 he married Anna flock Mountain, a daughter of a wealthy Hamburg family and settled in Kiel. Now freed from financial constraints was the young painter to work unencumbered. With Georg Burmester, Hans Olde and others, he founded in 1894 the Schleswig -Holstein Kunstgenossenschaft. Stoltenberg headed for the splendid volume, numerous illustrations in. 1900 he was the chair the Kunstgenossenschaft from Georg Burmester, with which he in Kiel " Academische painting and drawing school" founded 1905. 1914 moved to Schoenberg, a village not far from Kiel on the Baltic Sea beach, where he was still devoted to the plein air painting.
