Frýdštejn Castle
The castle Frýdštejn ( German Fried Stone ) is a ruined castle at Mala Skala in Cesky Raj ( Bohemian Paradise ) in the Czech Republic.
Location
The castle is located in the Liberec Region in the district Jablonec nad Nisou about 10 km from Turnov. It is located in the Bohemian Paradise, near the village of Frýdštejn on a sandstone cliff on the northwestern foothills of the Vranowský Hreben, the same ridge, the castle Vranov is on the southeastern end of the Pantheon.
History
The castle was first mentioned in 1385. In the 15th century the castle was besieged by the Hussites. Multiple changed hands and in the 16th century, the castle was uninhabited and fell into disrepair. The castle is the place Frýdštejn today.
Description
The landmark of the castle is the mighty round keep with a diameter of 9 m, a height of 15 m and a wall thickness of 2 m. Preserved are hewn in the rock spaces, parts of the castle walls and the remains of a deeper second tower and a fountain.
Visit
The castle can be visited for entry into the months of May to October. Special recognition gained the castle, especially the rock spaces through which there peddling witches of fairy tale film The Princess and the flying Schuster.
