FS Class E.412

The E.412 series is an Italian multi-system electric locomotive.

History

In 1993, both the Italian 3 kV DC power as well as to France (1.5 kV =), and in particular for the FS was in the wake of growing international activities of European railway companies a multi-system locomotive in order, which should be able to Brenner traffic in the Austrian and German network ( 15 kV 16.7 Hz) to be used. Technically run the locomotive should be designed for both fast Euro City trains and for freight. The four prototype locomotives were from 1996 by the then Manufacturers ABB Technomasio built (now Bombardier Transportation) in Vado Ligure, Italy. This facility produces almost exclusively for the Italian market. After many test runs, which led the locomotive along with the series 128, DB also in Switzerland, started in 1997 with the serial production of a further 16 machines. In addition, eight identical vehicles have also been attempts to Poland ( there should run as a series EU43 ) for sale, but failed for financial reasons by the PKP. The Polish locomotives are now leased to the Italian private railway company RTC ( Rail Traction Company). End of 1999/2000 test runs were made on the Pusteria line up according to ( Lienz in East Tyrol) Austria for the first time. On some days, this multi-system vehicles even came up to Spittal - Millstattersee.

Construction

The locomotives are structurally and technically the prototype of the AEG 12X very similar, which stood for a whole group of modern electric locomotives Godfather. The welded steel lightweight construction of the locomotive body relies on Flexicoil coil springs on the bogies. The side walls are ribbed aluminum to increase the rigidity. The ester -cooled transformer, as with new locomotives usual, mounted under the floor. They have two bogies with two powered by three-phase asynchronous axes. Each bogie forms a common drive unit. In addition, the locomotives are equipped with an electric regenerative braking ( the current generated in the traction motors during braking is fed back to the contact line, also known as regenerative braking ). Two pantographs of the type WBL were 85 mounted, one for DC ( cab A, Italian rocker) and alternating current ( cab B, German - Austrian rocker). Under alternating current systems, the secondary side voltage of the main transformer, in a four -quadrant controller ( 4QS ) is converted into a DC voltage which is fed in a DC intermediate circuit. Among the direct current systems, the power of the DC link is made directly from the contact line. In each a pulse inverter per drive unit of this direct current is then converted into a three- phase AC to power the traction motors. The actuators are controlled by a computer -assisted operating system. In addition, the locomotives have a 18-pin IC line ( UIC cable), double traction control and power supply via train line for passenger trains. Running behavior is series will be able to reach 220 km / h, but allowed in Italy for 200 km / h. Were used to equip the locomotives with the current command systems RS4 Codici (Italy) and PZB / LZB (DB / ÖBB). From a posting in France was the exception. The painting of the E 412 corresponds to the current standard XMPR painting of FS.

Use

At the scheduled use before Euro City trains to Germany to Munich, it did not come, because the ÖBB refused admission. Nevertheless, they have been from the beginning on the Brenner route from Verona in use. Due to the allocation of the series to Trenitalia Cargo locomotives are today exclusively for freight traffic in use. In particular, the features of the rolling road and container trains between the burner and Verona responsible of their covering. After a short series of tests in Poland and the locomotives of the RTC are used today on the Italian Brenner railway for the cover of freight trains. After repeated tests in the spring of 2006, the locomotives are also approved in Austria since mid-June 2006. Since the summer / fall of 2006 trains between Regensburg / Ingolstadt, Italy and Munich and Italy are covered as planned. They come exclusively through the Trenitalia subsidiary TX Logistik used. The end of January, beginning of February 2007 were covered in a large-scale experiment by TXL also trains from Verona to the Ruhr by going with the locomotives. From the beginning of April 2007, these locomotives of the FS will ride in agreement with the ÖBB to Salzburg. In return, the ÖBB -1216 drive as far as Cervingnano (Italy ) through without re on the border.
