Fulco I, Margrave of Milan

I. Fulco d'Este († December 15, 1128 ) was the founder of the Italian line of the Italian noble family of Este.

Life and work

Fulco was the youngest son of Alberto Azzo II d' Este and Garsende of Maine, daughter of Count Herbert I. After the death of his father, 1097, Fulco inherited the Italian possessions of the family, focusing in the Veneto to Mantua, Padua, Treviso and Verona was, while his older half-brother, the Bavarian Duke Welf IV, the property was north of the Alps. This division was not recognized by Welf IV, first under his grandson, Henry the Lion, the heirs Fulcos were awarded in 1154, the Italian goods in a contract.
